Current times are being linked to ages when major revolutions such as the industrial or when major innovations such as the steam engine were invented; crucial periods with permanent global reverberations.  In the past ten years or so, we have seen the world transform at blazingly fast speed before our very own eyes.  Years feel like months, months like days, and days like seconds.  Time feels like a pulsating light set to a regulated, unchangeable interval; the universe remains stagnant for none, perpetually moving.  As current predictions in trends suggest, artificial intelligence is forecasted to lead the world into the next major global revolution.

As with the industrial revolution, artificial intelligence’s rippling effects are predicted to be significantly visible in the upcoming year or two.  As is the case with every global transformation to occur, widespread paranoia has set in.  There are concerns over soaring unemployment rates after machines replace humans. If history is precedence, major transformations have occurred globally and the world has managed to cope.  People may lose jobs but there will also be an increase of jobs that will pertain to the Artificial Intelligence industry.

Artificial Intelligence is forecasted to be exponentially embedded within our lives.  Machine Learning, the ability of devices to process and retain external stimuli on their own, has tremendous potential for increasing efficiency, productivity and convenience.  The downside to Machine Learning is that it gives a sort of unrestricted power to machines in their ability to learn.  They could, for example, evolve to outsmart the human race or as was the case with Facebook recently, the bots could develop their own language to communicate with one another.

These types of incidents are cases that give credence to perhaps adapting universal regulation on compliance with configurations that restrict the amount and type of learning a machine can potentially have.  These regulations should not limit creative productivity nor should they be to the sole benefit of any particular groups.  Procedures should be in place that simultaneously encourage innovation, and also create boundaries that cannot be crossed.  It is imperative that we not only focus our efforts to the betterment of mankind but also to it’s safety and survival.
