Can you imagine a future where robots will outnumber human beings and driverless cars will be the norm? According to research by London & Partners, who commissioned SMG Insight /YouGov to survey British adults, technology is set to seriously transform our lives within the next 20 years.
Inspired by a series of predictions put forward by Imperial College London’s Tech Foresight research team, of all the industries expected to flourish under the watchful eye of technology, healthcare will be the one to change the most. It is believed that technology will drive forward the health care system to a point where we will no longer have to visit our GP, instead we will be able to consult them from the comfort of our home using virtual reality technology.
On this Professor David Gann, Vice President, Innovation at Imperial College London said, “London’s technologists, scientists, medics and entrepreneurs are creating the future. By considering breakthrough discoveries taking place in labs today, they help businesses look ahead to tech-driven trends and markets that will shape our future.”
Besides health care, the study also revealed that fashion will also be majorly transformed by technology. It is predicted that the industry is ripe for change and therefore it will not be long before we are all wearing clothing connected to the internet. Other findings from the SMG Insight/YouGov survey include:
With such predictions, it is easy to acknowledge that when it comes to the convergence of disruptive technologies and their impact on traditional industries such as fashion, music, financial services and healthcare, it is imperative that we first and foremost concentrate on creating a growth environment for innovators, researchers and developers.

With London ranked, second only to Silicon Valley, as the most likely place to produce the world’s next tech giant, the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan shared, “London Technology Week shines a light on this hugely important sector of the economy and demonstrates how our city is open to trade, ideas and people from across the globe. Tech-savvy Londoners welcome new digital advances that are going to revolutionise the way that we live and it is crucial that we harness those ideas to help the capital work even better as a city. As someone who has helped to run a successful business, I look forward to supporting the tech sector so it goes from strength to strength over the coming years.”
